About Water Sort

Water Sort is a color-sorting puzzle where you rearrange layers of liquid between glass tubes until each non-empty tube contains a single color. Select a tube, choose a valid destination, and carefully use the available empty space to organize every color.

The primary objective is to sort all colored liquids so that every non-empty tube contains four layers of the same color. Empty tubes can be used as temporary storage while arranging the colors.

Water Sort is a browser-based color sorting puzzle built around arranging liquid layers inside glass tubes. Each level begins with several mixed-color tubes and two empty tubes. Your task is to separate the colors by transferring the top liquid layers between tubes until every filled tube contains only one color.

Gameplay uses a simple two-selection system: select a non-empty tube first, then select the destination tube. A pour is valid when the destination is empty or its top layer matches the color being poured, and the destination must have enough room. A single move transfers the matching top-color group that fits into the destination.

The game tracks your moves, and completing a level records your best move count and awards one to three stars based on the number of moves used. You can use Undo to reverse previous moves and Hint to highlight a possible valid move. Restart resets the current level, while Pause temporarily leaves gameplay.

The game contains puzzle games for players looking for similar logic-based challenges and color sorting games for more sorting-focused gameplay. Players who prefer quick browser challenges can also explore arcade games or other casual puzzle games.

How to Play

  1. Start the game with Play Game, or use Select Level to choose an unlocked level.
  2. Select any non-empty tube to pick up its top liquid color.
  3. Select another tube as the destination.
  4. The pour works only when the destination is empty or its top color matches the liquid being poured, and there is sufficient capacity.
  5. Each completed pour counts as one move.
  6. Continue rearranging the liquids until every non-empty tube contains only one color.
  7. Use Undo if a previous move needs to be reversed, Hint for a highlighted valid move, or Restart to reset the current level.
  8. Completing the sorting puzzle opens the Level Complete screen, where your moves, best moves, and star result are shown.
  9. Completing a level unlocks the next level.

Winning & Losing Conditions

Winning Condition

A level is completed when every non-empty tube is completely filled with four layers of one identical color. Empty tubes are allowed.

Losing Condition

There is no separate game-over or life system. Invalid pours are rejected and the destination tube briefly shakes; the player can continue making moves. A level can also be restarted at any time.

Tips & Strategies

  1. Use the empty tubes deliberately. They provide the temporary space needed to expose buried colors and reorganize mixed stacks.
  2. Check the top layer before every pour. Only the currently exposed color can be transferred, and it must match the destination's top color unless the destination is empty.
  3. Avoid filling an empty tube too early. Keeping free capacity available can give you more options for separating colors later.
  4. Build matching stacks whenever possible. Moving a color onto the same color combines layers and can expose the next layer in the source tube.
  5. Use Undo instead of restarting after a poor move. Undo preserves the rest of your current solution attempt and restores the previous tube arrangement.
  6. Use Hint when the next valid move is unclear. The game highlights a source and destination tube for a possible move.
