About Tennis Arena

Tennis Arena is a one-on-one arcade tennis game where you control a player against a computer opponent. Move around your side of the court, return the ball, and use different shot types to win points and games. Win two games in a match to clear the level and unlock the next challenge.

The primary objective is to defeat the computer-controlled opponent by winning two games in a match. Points follow tennis-style scoring, including deuce and advantage situations. Winning the match completes the current level and unlocks the next level.

Tennis Arena puts you on a tennis court against a computer-controlled opponent in a series of progressively harder matches. Your main task is to move into position, return the ball over the net, and win enough points to take two games before the opponent does. The HUD displays the current point score, game score, level, and your chargeable power meter.

Movement uses four directions, allowing you to position your player for incoming shots. Press the hit control when the ball is within range, with timing affecting the type of return you can make. The game includes normal shots, fast shots, lobs, smashes, and a special power shot. The special shot becomes available after your power meter reaches the required charge.

The game contains 30 named levels, beginning with Beginner and progressing through increasingly capable opponents. Higher levels increase ball speed and improve the opponent's movement, reaction, accuracy, and aggressiveness. Progress is saved locally, so completed levels remain unlocked.

How to Play

  1. Start from the main menu by selecting Play, or choose an unlocked level from Level Select.
  2. The selected level begins with a short countdown before the rally starts.
  3. Move your player around your side of the court using the four directional controls.
  4. Position yourself close enough to the incoming ball and use Hit to return it.
  5. Adjust your timing to produce different shots:
    • Normal shots provide a balanced return.
    • Fast shots are available when you hit the ball closer to yourself.
    • Lobs are produced when the ball is higher.
    • Smashes are available when the ball is sufficiently high and close.
  6. During rallies, your power meter charges. Use Special / Power Shot when the meter reaches the required charge.
  7. Continue returning the ball until the rally ends and a point is awarded.
  8. Win enough points to take a game, then win two games to complete the match.
  9. After winning a level, select Next Level to continue.
  10. If you lose the match, the result screen allows you to play the level again or return to the main menu.

Winning & Losing Conditions

Winning Condition

Win two games in the current match. Completing the match marks the level as cleared and unlocks the next level.

Losing Condition

Lose the match by allowing the computer opponent to win two games. A rally can also be lost when your return results in an out, when the ball is not successfully returned, or when the ball bounces twice on your side.

Tips & Strategies

  • Move before hitting: Position yourself near the expected landing area instead of waiting until the ball is directly beside you.
  • Use fast shots at close range: The game specifically makes close-range hits faster, making them useful when you can meet the ball early.
  • Use lobs against high balls: When the ball is already elevated, a lob gives you a higher, slower return trajectory.
  • Look for smash opportunities: A high ball close to your player can trigger a smash with increased speed.
  • Save the power shot for an important rally: The special attack requires at least 80% power, so avoid wasting the charge when a normal return is sufficient.
  • Watch the game score as well as the point score: Matches require two games, and the game uses deuce and advantage rules rather than a simple fixed point total.
