About Apex Drift

Apex Drift is a low-poly 3D arcade racing game built around timed circuit races. Drive a car through three-lap tracks, pass checkpoints in the required order, manage your speed through corners, and finish within target times to earn stars. Completing a race also advances the track progression by unlocking the next circuit.

The primary objective is to complete 3 laps of the selected circuit while passing all 8 checkpoints in order on each lap. Finish the race as quickly as possible to improve your best time and earn up to 3 stars; completing a race also unlocks the next track in the progression.

Apex Drift puts you behind the wheel of a low-poly racing car on closed circuits designed around fast corners and drifting. Each race consists of three laps, and the game tracks eight checkpoints that must be passed in sequence to validate each lap. The HUD displays your speed, car health, current lap, checkpoint progress, race timer, and saved best time.

Use the keyboard to accelerate, brake or reverse, and steer through the circuit. Holding a turn while traveling at speed produces a drift effect, while leaving the track reduces your available speed and can damage the car if you stay too far outside the road. If you remain off the track for too long, the car is reset toward the previous checkpoint.

There are three circuits with different environments and difficulty ratings: Emerald Hollow, Ashen Canyon, and Midnight Circuit. Finishing a race records your time and star rating, and successful completion unlocks the next track. Players looking for similar challenges can also explore racing games or arcade games. For players interested in timed competition, time trial games is another relevant category.

How to Play

  1. Select PLAY, NEW RACE, or choose an available circuit through TRACK SELECT.
  2. Select the track and press START RACE. A countdown of 3, 2, 1, and GO begins the race.
  3. Accelerate with W / Up Arrow and steer using A / Left Arrow or D / Right Arrow.
  4. Use S / Down Arrow to brake or reverse when necessary.
  5. Pass every checkpoint in sequence. There are 8 checkpoints per lap.
  6. Complete all 3 laps to finish the race.
  7. Keep the car on the circuit where possible. Going off the road reduces speed and prolonged off-track driving can cause damage.
  8. If the car stays sufficiently far off the track for more than about 3.2 seconds, it is reset to the previous checkpoint.
  9. After finishing, review the race time and star result. Completing a race unlocks the next track when another track remains.
  10. If the car's health reaches zero, the race ends with GAME OVER, where you can try again or return to the main menu.

Winning & Losing Conditions

Winning Condition

Complete all 3 laps while passing all 8 checkpoints in order on each lap. The race then ends with a results screen showing the completion time and star rating.

Losing Condition

The car starts with 100 HP. Driving sufficiently far outside the track causes periodic damage; if health reaches 0, the car is wrecked and the game displays GAME OVER. Remaining off the track for more than about 3.2 seconds also triggers a reset to the previous checkpoint rather than an immediate loss.

Tips & Strategies

  1. Brake before tight corners: Steering becomes less responsive at higher speed, so reducing speed before a sharp turn makes the car easier to place on the circuit.
  2. Use controlled drifting: At higher speeds, holding a steering direction creates a lateral drift effect that can help carry the car through corners.
  3. Watch checkpoint order: Missing the required checkpoint prevents the lap from being completed, so follow the checkpoint sequence rather than simply crossing the start area.
  4. Avoid prolonged off-road driving: The car loses speed while off the track, and driving far enough outside the road causes repeated health damage.
  5. Recover quickly when off-track: If you cannot return to the circuit promptly, the automatic checkpoint reset is preferable to continuing to lose speed and health.
  6. Chase the target time: The three-star rating is based on your completed race time relative to the track's target time, so faster clean laps directly improve the result.

There are three tracks: Emerald Hollow, Ashen Canyon, and Midnight Circuit.

Your star rating is determined by your race time compared with the track's target time. Finishing at or below 85% of the target earns three stars.

The car loses speed while off the track. Driving sufficiently far outside the road causes health damage, and remaining off-track for more than about 3.2 seconds triggers a reset toward the previous checkpoint.
