About Timber Trail: Wooden Block Puzzle

Timber Trail: Wooden Block Puzzle is a grid-based puzzle game where you drag wooden pieces onto a 9×9 board. Place the available pieces to complete rows, columns, and 3×3 groves, clearing them for points and building combos. Journey Mode adds score targets and level progression, while Classic Mode focuses on continuing the board-clearing challenge until no available piece can fit.

The primary objective depends on the selected mode:

  • Journey Mode: Reach the target score for the current level to clear the grove and unlock the next level.
  • Classic Mode: Place pieces strategically, clear completed rows, columns, and 3×3 groves, and achieve as high a score as possible before no available piece fits.

Timber Trail: Wooden Block Puzzle uses a 9×9 board divided visually into nine 3×3 groves. At the bottom or side of the board, three wooden pieces are provided at a time. Drag a piece from the tray onto an open area of the board; a green preview indicates that the placement is valid, while red indicates that the piece will not fit. Pieces cannot be rotated, so their supplied orientation needs to be considered before placing them.

Completing a full row, column, or 3×3 grove clears the occupied cells and awards points. Clearing multiple units together increases the combo and can produce a larger score. Simply placing a piece does not award points.

Journey Mode contains 60 levels, with each level requiring a higher target score than the previous one. Successful levels award one to three stars based on the score achieved and unlock further levels on the Journey Map. Classic Mode removes the level target and provides a score-focused game.

The game supports pointer-based dragging, including mouse and touch interaction, and provides pause, restart, sound, and progress-saving functionality.

How to Play

  1. Choose Journey Mode or Classic Mode from the main menu.
  2. In Journey Mode, select an unlocked level from the Journey Map.
  3. Take one of the three available wooden pieces from the tray.
  4. Drag the piece onto the 9×9 board.
  5. Use the placement preview: green means the piece can be placed there, while red means the placement is invalid.
  6. Release the piece in a valid position. Pieces cannot be rotated.
  7. Complete full rows, columns, or 3×3 groves to clear them and earn points.
  8. Use several clears together to build a combo and increase the resulting score.
  9. The tray is refilled with three new pieces after all current pieces have been used.
  10. In Journey Mode, reach the displayed target score to clear the level and unlock the next stage.
  11. If none of the available pieces can fit, the run ends and the level is restarted automatically.

Winning & Losing Conditions

Winning Condition

In Journey Mode, the player wins the current level by reaching its target score. The level is then marked as cleared, stars are awarded according to the final score, and the next level becomes unlocked.

Classic Mode has no traditional win condition; the goal is to continue scoring until no available piece can be placed.

Losing Condition

A run ends when none of the three currently available pieces can fit anywhere on the board. The game displays a "No moves left" message and automatically restarts the current level or Classic Mode run.

Tips & Strategies

  1. Keep the 3×3 groves open. A nearly filled grove can be useful for a future clear, so avoid filling its remaining spaces without considering the pieces still in your tray.
  2. Plan around the piece orientation. Pieces do not rotate, so leave appropriately shaped spaces rather than expecting to turn a difficult piece later.
  3. Prioritize multi-clears. Completing several rows, columns, or groves with one placement produces a larger score and can increase your combo multiplier.
  4. Do not judge a placement only by immediate clearing. A placement that earns points can still leave the board with awkward spaces that prevent later pieces from fitting.
  5. Watch all three tray pieces before placing one. Since the game provides three pieces at once, consider where the remaining pieces could go before committing the first placement.
  6. Use the score target efficiently in Journey Mode. Once the target is reached, the level is complete, so additional risk is unnecessary unless you are deliberately trying to improve the star result.
