About Snakes & Leaders

Snakes & Leaders is a turn-based board game built around a 10×10 numbered board, dice rolls, snakes, and ladders. Choose between playing against the computer or playing with another person in pass-and-play mode. Move your token toward square 100, using ladders to climb forward while avoiding snakes that send you backward.

The primary objective is to be the first player to reach square 100. Players roll the die and move forward according to the result; landing on a ladder moves the token upward, while landing on a snake moves it down to another square.

Snakes & Leaders is a turn-based board game played on a 100-square board. At the start, you choose between 1 Player (Vs Computer) and 2 Players (Pass & Play). Each player begins on square 1 and takes turns rolling the die with the ROLL DICE button.

After a roll, the token advances one square at a time. If the token lands on the start of a ladder, it climbs to the ladder's upper square. Landing on the head of a snake instead sends the token down to its lower square. The board contains five snakes and five ladders, and their positions are generated dynamically, so a restarted game can have a different layout.

The game also includes a pause menu with options to resume, restart, or return to the main menu. Reaching square 100 triggers the win screen. How to Play

  1. Start the game from the main menu.
  2. Select 1 Player (Vs Computer) or 2 Players (Pass & Play).
  3. Player 1 starts on square 1.
  4. Click ROLL DICE to generate a number from 1 to 6.
  5. Your token moves forward according to the roll.
  6. If you land on a ladder, your token climbs to its destination square.
  7. If you land on a snake, your token slides down to its destination square.
  8. Turns alternate between the players. In Vs Computer mode, the computer rolls automatically during its turns.
  9. A roll that would move a player beyond square 100 does not move the token; the turn passes to the next player.
  10. Reach square 100 to win. You can use Pause, then choose Restart Game or Main Menu when applicable.

Tips & Strategies

  • Watch the snake and ladder positions: The board layout is regenerated when a new game is started, so inspect the current board before making decisions.
  • Remember that rolls can overshoot 100: A roll that would take you past square 100 does not move your token and simply passes the turn.
  • Track the ladder destinations: Landing on a ladder can move you substantially forward, making ladder squares important targets to recognize.
  • Be aware of snake heads: Landing on a snake's starting square immediately sends your token backward.
  • In two-player mode, monitor the opponent's position: Reaching 100 first ends the game immediately, so the opponent's progress matters as much as your own.
